Dr. Bryce Turnage, a cardiovascular surgeon at Anderson Hospital, was the guest speaker for a holiday breakfast sponsored by the American Heart Association in Meridian.
Turnage urges women to try to prevent heart problems because other ailments develop rapidly once heart disease is present.
"Lifestyle change and modification is the most important thing women can do, and the recommendations include daily exercise, moderation in diet and alcohol intake, to quit smoking and to check with their doctor to see if they have any other risk factors that may need to be amended," said Dr. Turnage.
Turnage recommended the website www.aha.org for more details.
