A Head Start on Life

Learning to read is one of the most important steps in the development of a child.

Local pre-k programs place an emphasis on reading to help give kids a vital "head start,: and Mississippi Action for Progress, or Head Start, is doing that.

Most educators say a good education is built upon a solid foundation. That's why pre-k instruction has an emphasis on reading.

Children at East End Head Start Center are read stories every day. It's tied in to learning the alphabet and instilling a desire to read. Administrator Joyce Harris said the ability to read is not only important for success as a student but ultimately for success in life.
