The meeting was sponsored by District 3 board member Dana Thomas. Other members of the board say other similar meetings are possible.
"I'm not sure but several of us had talked about having a meeting in each of our districts but he's the first to actually put one together," says Sumter County Board of Education member, Bertha Rodgers.
One of the things discussed at the meeting was a new law which could lead to a parents arrest for a student having 10 unexcused absences in a semester's period.
The board's next full meeting is Tuesday, November 9 at 6:30 in the Sumter County Board of Educations’ chambers in Livingston.
