Millage Glitch Affects Car Tags

People who buy their car tags this month will get a bargain. Because of the millage decrease by the city the tag prices were decreased.

"The procedure on the ad valerem tax millage as soon as the city adopts a millage the county tax collector we call to give him those millage numbers because that has to be transmitted to the state to print the bills for the month of October so it's a very short time frame," said city clerk Ed Skipper.

The bills that were sent out in September did not take into account the tax cut, so they were discounted at the counter of the tax collector.

Now that the cost has gone back up, the computers can't be adjusted in the middle of the month so the bargain rates will remain in effect until Nov. 1.
