The discovery was made around 7:30 Tuesday morning on North Lakeland Drive just off Highway 80 West. It was there that investigators found a man shot to death inside what's believed to have been his car. It was parked in the driveway of the former nightclub "Big Mama's."
"There they found the body of Jermain Martin, a 23-year-old black male from the Marion area, who appeared to have died from a gunshot wound.
“The Meridian Police Department's Violent Crime Unit is investigating the matter, interviewing witnesses and going over evidence," says Lt. Dean Harper.
According to investigators, it appears the shooting may have happened about 12 hours prior to the discovery. While authorities are releasing very few other details about the incident, they had this to say about whether the shooting could be connected to the discovery of a Meridian teenager found shot to death in a car last week in Clarke County.
"I can't speculate if there was a tie," says Lt. Harper, "or if anything was the same. We don't wanna go that way."
Meanwhile, at last check no one had been charged in the case. As for a motive, investigators say it's too early to say.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Meridian Police Department’s Crimestoppers line at (601) 485-1860.
