Board Adopts New Policy

The Meridian School Board voted unanimously Monday night to approve a new board policy. It affects the employment of retirees and their insurance coverage.

“Allowing for the district to hire individuals who are retired under the PERS retirement system and reimburse them for their insurance. In the past, school districts, if they hired a retiree, were not allowed to pay for their insurance but we pay for all our other bus drivers' insurance," said Dr. Gearl Loeden, director of Human Resources for the Meridian school district.

District officials say the new policy will help with employee recruitment in the district.
