The state college board has now approved the restoration of funding for the universities that had been delayed due to litigation in the state's college desegregation case.
A spokeswoman for the board says the $59 million proposal will be sent to lawmakers for them to consider during the next regular legislative session.
The money was supposed to be paid out to Jackson State, Alcorn and Mississippi Valley State between 2002 and 2005.
However, it was held up due to an appeal of the $503 million settlement.
