United Blood Service always needs donors to give the “gift of life” and is glad for each one, but some have given above and beyond what is asked of them.
As of Monday, Jerry Mack Slayton has donated 50 gallons and four pints. He said he's been donating since he was 18, except when circumstances prevented him.
"I just wish everybody would come up here and do this and help these people out and everything, to help themselves and help this community out," said Slayton, who has donated over 400 times.
United Blood Services Monday thanked donors with a certificate for a free turkey as long as the supply lasted.
