Just before noon Monday a head-on collision occurred at the intersection of Poplar Springs Drive and North Hills Street.
Police said one of the drivers was believed to be fleeing the scene of a previous accident when he ran the light and crossed into the wrong lane of traffic.
"Initially when it begins to rain, that's when the roads are the slickest," said Officer Sammie Taylor of the Meridian Police Department, "and people are trying to beat the light. Just take a few minutes to slow down. If it's yellow, go ahead and stop. Wait for the light to turn green rather than try to beat a light. "
Weather is not believed to be a major factor in the accident. Two people were transported to local hospitals.
