A Clarke County inmate, scheduled to be transferred to a state prison Monday, escaped from jail Monday morning.
But Eddie Dew, 24, was apprehended just after 5 p.m. Monday in the Stonewall area. He escaped through the jail's kitchen area around 7:15 a.m.
"He apparently heard he was going to be transferred so he had opportunity to escape," said Sheriff Todd Kemp. "It happened while we were feeding. He saw an opportunity to escape and he did."
Dew is serving time for burglary. An escape charge against him will be presented to the next grand jury.
After he was captured Monday, Dew was immediately transported to a state facility in Rankin County.
