Police say a Huntsville mother has confessed to starving her three children to death. The bodies were discovered Friday in the family's apartment.
Sgt. Ed Cain of the Huntsville Police Department said Nathshay Yvonne Ward has been charged with capital murder. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said when the children were discovered, they did "appear malnourished."
The bodies of nine-year-old Latricia Ward, eight-year-old Christopher Ward and eleven-year-old Shanieka Ward were found in three separate bedrooms in the Huntsville apartment.
Cain said the children had been dead at least several days. He says autopsies will determine how and when they died.
Johnson said utilities had been turned off in the apartment since Jan. 12 and the children had not been in school since after the holiday break.
Johnson said family members told police that they had been trying to visit the family for the past few weeks, but the children's mother would not let them into the apartment.
