The coordinator of training for the Regional Response Team headquartered in Meridian that involves nine counties paid a visit to the Meridian Rotary Club.
Eddie Ivy told the club Meridian is the only municipality with a full-time Homeland Security Department.
It hosted 58 different training courses last year.
"What we want to see is every member on that team not necessarily knowing how to do everything that has to be done but understanding every role from decontamination to entry, evidence collection and preservation, whatever it may be that would be involved in a weapons of mass destruction or terrorism response," said Ivy.
Ivy said the majority of funding for the operations and training comes through federal grants that exceeded $2 million in 2004.
