Dr. Harold Nichols will be the next dean of MSU-Meridian, pending approval by the board of trustees.

"This is a great opportunity here with a good people," said Nichols.

He comes from Georgia Southern University, where he led the Fine Arts Department. He's not only being called the right man for the job, but a perfect fit as well.

"His knowledge of theatre and love for the arts are great," said Mayor John Robert Smith. MSU Meridian is spearheading the opera house project. "It's going to be a great thing for the community."

Dr. Nichols opera house expertise got him the job, but he has other priorities, namely bringing more students to school here.

"Increasing enrollment is a priority," said Nichols.

Nichols wants to raise enrollment from 700 students to 1,000. The board of trustees is expected to vote and approve Nichols soon.
