Mission: Mississippi

Updated: Fri 10:52 AM, Jan 03, 2003

Efforts are being made to break down racial and denominational barriers in this area.

Tuesday, officials with Mission Mississippi held a special planning meeting in Meridian.

Next month the group will hold a "Reconciliation Rally" here.

Organizers say it is important that the public support this effort.

"It's a model to the world, number one. And number two, it's a model of Jesus' plan," said Dr. Dolphus Weary of Mission Mississippi. "People need to intentionally put this on their agenda because we recognize unless we intentionally do it, because every Sunday we will gather and bring together our white churches and black churches."

Mission Mississippi was founded about 10 years ago. It's a statewide effort designed to break down racial and denominational barriers within the church.

The Mission Mississippi rally will be held Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Frank Cochran Center.
