Clarke County inmate John Dampeer, 21, has been apprehended by authorities after he escaped just before lunch time Friday from the Clarke County Jail.

Officials say Dampeer got out through the exercise yard, climbing over razor wire. His bloody jail uniform was found discarded about 150 feet away, so officials know he was injured in the escape.

Dampeer was being held on a strong armed robbery charge. He was arrested Wednesday after a female was held up in a parking lot by the county courthouse. He made his initial court appearance Friday morning.

According to Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp, authorities were able to locate Dampeer near Pachuta after receiving a call from a residence off Highway 18. Dampeer had traveled nine miles from the jail following his escape.

Dampeer will be charged with felony escape, which carries a mandatory sentence of five years, on top of any other prison term he might receive on the previous charge,

Inmates escaping has little to do with the sheriff. Would you vote for a tax increase to build a modern jail or hire a guard for every inmate? When you have an inmate willing to risk death by climbing over razor wire you need more that what the present jail has. As far as I know I have never met Kemp so I am not defending him just the job.

If you are in jail then you have given up your rights! The problem today is there is not enough consiquences to go with the crime. Take a flight over to Saudi Arabia and steel some something, it's off with your hand. I am not saying the US needs to do that but they certainly don't need to give a convict 3 meals, an air conditioner, an play time. They should hook them to a chain and make them clean ditches or some sort of work. I bet it wouldn't take but one person shot while trying to flee to get the point accross.
