Getting Down and Dirty

Volunteers hit the streets of downtown, literally, to clean up downtown Meridian.

Roughly 200 people from over 24 organizations put on their gloves and put their backs into making downtown cleaner and more attractive. Volunteers shoveled dirt and silt off the roadside, picked up trash and pulled weeds.

"Well, I think it shows pride in the community and gives everyone a chance to be a part of the momentum downtown," said clean up chairman Leslie York.

The effort, headed by the Downtown Clean-Up Task Force, will continue Saturday. Just show up and they'll put you to work.
