Meridian Community College named its humanities professor of the year Wednesday.
Barbara Rawson Jones, a literature instructor, received the award in a ceremony at Webb Center.
"I just want to tell you that regardless of what else that I do, one of my favorite things in the world to do is to teach," said Jones. "And when I go into that classroom, I can close that door and it becomes my world and their world. And it's one of the most enjoyable things that I get to do."
Jones was honored with a reception after the ceremony. Congress created the national Endowment for the Humanities in 1965.
