Sonny Montgomery was joined by Congressman Chip Pickering Saturday, as they announced $100,000 in federal appropriations to fund the Montgomery Institute for another year.
The institute is designed to promote economic development in both East Mississippi and West Alabama. Montgomery, who is the director emeritus of the institute, said the money is vital to its future.
Pickering, who helped secure the funding, said it will help the institute fulfill a vision of future economic development in the area. The institute is a little over a year old, and Bill Crawford, who heads it up, said its off to a good start.
The money is part of an appropriations bill that should be completed and passed by Congress by November. The institute hopes to have the money in its hand by the beginning of next year
