Mississippi's educational system won't have to deal with more budget cuts next year, according to Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.

In remarks to the Mississippi Association of Colleges in Oxford, the governor said it's not impossible to avoid the situation of cutting budgets
in the middle of a fiscal year.

"I want ya'll to be the first to hear it. I am going to submit a budget that uses real numbers, real estimates, that will not provide for cuts," said Gov. Musgrove. "That will properly fund education from kindergarten to 12th grade, junior and community colleges and universities."

One-time money was used to fill the gap in higher education this year.

Musgrove told the association he expects resistance moving his budget
proposal through the legislature, but is optimistic about its chances for passage.
