The old grocery store at the corner of Causeyville Road and Zero Road in Lauderdale County was demolished Wednesday.
The store, which had been closed for years, had begun to fall in and become a safety hazard to the residents of the community and a visual obstruction for drivers on both roads, prompting county officials to remove it.
"I work pretty close with the volunteer fire departments and we discuss issues throughout Lauderdale County, especially District 5 with my fire departments. We felt that it was a hazard and that it would be beneficial to move it out of the community," said county supervisor Ray Boswell.
Boswell said the landowner also requested help in removing the old building.
