The Alabama House has approved a bill to provide $250,000 in life insurance to Alabama National Guard members or reservists deployed for overseas duty.
The bill passed the House 83 to 0.
The sponsor, Rep. Ken Guin of Carbon Hill, said the insurance is needed because of the large number of Alabama Guard members and reservists deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The bill allows for the state to take out the insurance policy on each soldier deployed overseas or for the state to self-insure them.
The measure now goes to the Alabama Senate.
