During lunchtime, Congressman Shows greeted patrons at Montant's restaurant. Despite lagging numbers in the polls, Shows says he is optimistic about the election.

"I would have never ran in 1998 if I went by polls because they said a Democrat couldn't win this seat, but yet I proved them wrong and yet polls are great. They serve some purpose, and give consultants a job. But basically when it comes out, the only poll you should count is today, Election Day," said Congressman Ronnie Shows, District 3.

According to the latest Associated Press poll released Sunday, Republican Congressman Chip Pickering has 54-percent to 27-percent lead over Congressman Shows.
