Robberies Probed by Police

The Meridian Police Department is asking for the public's help as it investigate two robberies that occurred in the Queen City over the weekend.

Meridian police Lt. Dean Harper says a man was robbed in a parking lot around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of Hwy 11 South.

"He was approached by two black males, one of them pulled a knife and put it to his stomach and demanded his money," Harper said. "The victim complied and the two suspects fled the scene on foot."

Harper says a few hours later, another man was injured while being robbed in a parking lot by two black males and a black female in the 6500 block of Hwy 80 West.

"One of the males hit the man in the head knocking him to the ground, stole his wallet and his cell phone. The man was transported to a local hospital for his injuries, believed to be minor at the time," said Harper.

Harper says police are treating the crimes as separate incidents, despite some similarities in each case.

"At this time, we are not linking the two crimes together. The MO is similar because of the way the victims were approached in the parking lots. Right now both cases are still under investigation," Harper said.

The public is being urged to exercise caution and to contact Crimestoppers at (601) 485-1860 or your local law enforcement agency, with any information regarding either of the crimes.
