Tuesday, at least two special elections were held for state legislative seats. Voters in Sumter, Greene, Choctaw and Marengo counties turned out to vote for candidates in the District 24 Senate race and District 65 House race.
In the State Senate race the candidates are Bobby Singleton who is a Democrat and James E. Carter who's running as a Republican. Meanwhile in the House race the candidates are Democrat Gloria Dolbare, Republican Nick Williams and Independent candidate Wayne Lathan.
Once this election is concluded, officials say there will not be a runoff.
"With this being a general election whichever candidate is fortunate to get enough votes to outnumber the other will be the person to go into office," says Choctaw County Probate Judge Michael Armistead.
Polls close Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
