The state junior college system spent $80,000 on a study that shows the 15 two-year schools employ 6,500 people and assist business with work force training.

The state Board for Community and Junior Colleges released the report Friday.

Board chairman George Walker of Clarksdale, hopes it will result in more money for the schools, especially in work force training

The report "quantifies what we already knew,'' said Dr. Tommy Davis, president of East Mississippi Community College in Scooba.

The study reported the schools enrolled 189,153 students in fiscal 2001, including 75 percent working full-time or part-time while enrolled.
