Six Kemper County students, including four athletes, have been indicted by a grand jury on charges of livestock theft.

District Attorney Bilbo Mitchell says the students are scheduled to stand trial on Jan. 23, 2003. They are free on bond.

Mitchell says the students are accused of stealing a horse. He would not give out other details or when the incident occurred.

Prosecutors say Delano Boyd, Anwar Sadat Jenkins, Harold Mobley, Jamie Mobley and LaShawn Triplett are each charged with one count of stealing livestock. The sixth student, Omarion Backstrom, is charged with two counts.

Jenkins, Backstrom and Boyd were members of the Kemper County High School football team. Triplett and Backstrom play on the basketball team.

High school Principal Wayne Benn says the students will be allowed to attend classes and participate in other activities.
