The Keep America Beautiful Commission of Meridian-Lauderdale County announced the beginning of its 2005 campaign, the "Great American Cleanup."
"It's time to clean up" is the theme of this year's effort, which begins Friday and continues through May 31.
"This beautiful city, county, state and country and was given to us by God, and it is our responsibility to be good stewards and to keep it clean, to make it beautiful, and to keep it safe," said Betty Lou Jones, KAB chairperson.
A lawnmower was donated by Troy-Bilt to the Parks and Recreation Department at the end of the ceremony. If you would like to volunteer to help clean up, Keep America Beautiful will provide you with free gloves and trash bags.
