Thompson Meets with Mayors

U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, who represents Mississippi's second congressional district, addressed the Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors on Saturday in Heidelberg.

The former mayor of Bolton, Miss., a small town just outside of Jackson, Cong.Thompson says he understands the challenges facing Mississippi's black mayors and the communities they serve.

He shared the latest information about federal programs available to help with the acquisition of police cars and fire trucks, and aid water and sewage efforts.

The Mississippi Conference of Black Mayors has been meeting for more than 30 years and has a membership of more than 70 mayors, representing about a half million people.
