Voting by Absentee Ballot

Voters who need to cast absentee ballots for the Nov. 5 elections face a deadline this week.

Roughly 600 absentee ballots have been submitted to the Lauderdale County Circuit Clerk's office so far.

Disabled voters who might have trouble getting to the polls on Election Day may even vote curbside.

"They told me to come and let them know when I got out here. And they'd come out and let us vote," said Ruby Stokes, a resident of Lauderdale County. A clerk brought the application and ballots to the vehicle outside the courthouse so she and her husband could vote.

"Curbside voting is a legal action that can happen on Election Day but what happens if you do it on Election Day, it really shuts down the polling place," said Donna Jill Johnson, circuit clerk of Lauderdale County. "But what we do recommend to people that are in that situation, if they have a doctor's excuse on file with us, they will get a ballot automatically every year and don't have to do curbside voting."

Johnson's office will be open all week, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and also
Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8:00 a.m. till noon.

Qualified voters may vote absentee before Election Day, Nov. 5.
