A T-45 Goshawk, piloted by a student at Meridian Naval Air Station, crashed Tuesday around 6:25 p.m., claiming the pilot's life.
He was attached to Training Squadron 7, but the pilot's name was still not released as of Wednesday afternoon.
"We are trying to see what happened and we are collecting the pieces of the plane," said Capt. Daniel Ouimette, commodore of Training Air Wing One. "The student pilot was killed while conducting routine training. He crashed about one mile south of McCain Field."
The student's T-45 was equipped with a data recorder, which the investigation team hopes will cast light on what happened prior to the crash.
