The cost of health care for Lauderdale County is going up by some $16,000, but county officials say it could be much worse.
The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to approve new health care coverage for its employees.
It will be provided by Blue Cross-Blue Shield and Delta Dental.
When officials first began working on health care coverage, it appeared it would cost $200,000 extra to pay for it this year, but with some work, supervisors say they were able to make the increased costs a little more manageable.
"We got it down to a better average, more doctors, and a $16,000 increase. I was real happy with the outcome," said District 1 supervisor Eddie Harper.
The new coverage will also include an improved vision plan and supplemental insurance for short-term disability for county employees.
