Just about every year around this time, Butch and Carla Smith are keeping a watchful eye on the Chickasawhay River.

The Enterprise, Miss., couple says whenever the Chickasawhay swells, it almost always means flooding, leaving the road that leads to their home and a large part of their property under water.

It sometimes means getting their belongings out of their house.

But the National Weather Service in Jackson said the Chickasawhay at Enterprise crested Saturday afternoon and the water is expected to fall throughout next week. They expect the river to crest in Shubuta early Monday.
