The Jimmie Rodgers Talent Contest is known for showcasing a lot of talent, much of it undiscovered.
Not all entrants hail from the Meridian area, but usually they don't come from as far away as Stockholm, Sweden. But festival goers this year enjoyed a talented duet from that country.
Michael Lindgren and Birgitta Adamson placed third, singing an original song about Jimmie Rodgers, written by Michael.
On Monday, the couple took a tour of Meridian with the city's chief administrative officer, Ken Storms, and enjoyed a tour of Peavey Electronics' international headquarters.
Lindgren's father introduced his son to country music at age three. Later, he says he discovered Hank Williams, Jr., and Meridian's Jimmie Rodgers.
Adamson began learning about Rodgers and his style of music when she met Lindgren five years ago. She calls it "original" country.
The couple's trip to the U.S. was motivated by participation in the talent contest. They head back home Tuesday, with the hope of sometime returning to enjoy more Southern hospitality.
