The Rev. Lamorris Richardson, pastor of Love City Fellowship in Meridian, says he was handcuffed and thrown into the back of a patrol car Tuesday night, even though he reported a crime to police.
Following a Bible study at his church, it was discovered that the car of a church member had been stolen. Richardson found the car a few minutes later and called 9-1-1. He says when police arrived, they didn't want to process the car or check it for fingerprints.
When Richardson insisted they do it, he says an officer cuffed him and put him in a squad car. When it was discovered who he was, he was released.
Richardson says he wants an apology, and he wants to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
Both Police Chief Benny Dubose and Assistant Chief Keith McCary were out of town and unavailable for comment. The only thing police officials will say is that the incident is under investigation, and the results of that investigation should be available soon.
