Runoff Candidates Wrangle

Alabama Cong. Earl Hilliard and his opponent in the June 25 democratic runoff, Artur Davis, have accused each other of having ties to republicans.

Hilliard said Davis has received numerous campaign contributions from republicans or donors who have given to GOP candidates, implying Davis might switch parties if elected.

Davis, a former federal prosecutor, denied that. He countered that Hilliard has received similar contributions and joined republicans in a legal fight against campaign finance reform.

The mayor of Birmingham, Bernard Kincaid, called the allegation that Davis would switch parties "ludicrous."
