Search Called Off

Newton County authorities have called off the search for a body in a pond there.

The sheriff's department had received a tip from authorities in Arizona that a man had been shot and dumped in the pond six years ago. But after draining the pond, digging through mud for skeletal remains, and using a metal detector to search for the gun, Sheriff Jackie Knight says nothing was found.

Knight said the person who gave the original information will be re-questioned by authorities to decide if there is any validity to his claim.
