Police Station Latest

Work on a new Meridian Police Department facility remains at a standstill.

Watkins Development announced last month that delays in a tax credit were to blame for construction stopping at the site on 22nd Avenue, and they hoped to have workers back on site by the end of the month, but work has not started.

Mayor Cheri Barry says those tax credits have not been closed on, and Barry says that while she is disappointed that the project is not moving forward yet, she is confident it will be completed.

Barry says it is almost impossible to project a completion date with the ongoing wait for those tax credits.

"I know that this month was what we talked about for the completion of the project, so I'm disappointed that we're not in," says Barry, "but I'm really looking forward to this project being completed by the end of this year hopefully."

A call to Watkins Development has not been returned as of yet, but Barry says the City is still working closely with David Watkins along with local financial and legal officials.
