MDOT Makes Pot Bust

Updated: Fri 10:01 AM, Nov 15, 2002

Making a routine inspection Wednesday night, the Mississippi Department of Transportation discovered eight pounds of marijuana hidden in a moving van on Interstate 20 in Meridian.

The pot is valued on the street at $20,000.

Enforcing Mississippi's truck size and weight laws is the primary function of MDOT's Office of Law Enforcement.

Meridian Police Officer Chris Read and his canine partner located the marijuana, hidden in a packing box.

Bobby Ellick, 40, of San Diego, Calif., and Adrian Clark, 40, of August,
Georgia, were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
