Conviction Upheld in Neshoba County Kidnapping

The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the 2010 conviction of a Neshoba County man for strong armed robbery, kidnapping and carjacking.

Marion Chad Spears was sentenced to 45 years in prison, 15 years on each count, with the sentences running consecutively.

Prosecutors say Spears escaped from a county inmate work program Aug. 14, 2009, and went to B&G Wood in Philadelphia, where he passed a note to an employee saying he would kill her if she didn't write him a $15,000 check.

Prosecutors say Spears then forced the secretary into her car and made her drive to a bank where they both went inside and cashed the check. They later drove down a graveled road where Spears let
the woman go unharmed.
