IT MAY SEEM ODD THAT A STRUCTURE FIRE CAN SAVES LIVES. BUT WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE NEW BURN-BUILDING AT THE MERIDIAN PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING FACILITY, IT ALL MAKES SENSE.

THE $400,000 STRUCTURE WILL BE USED TO TRAIN FIREFIGHTERS IN A CONTROLLED BURN SITUATION, WHICH WILL HELP THEM GAIN HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE.

"This burn building is going to give us the opportunity to give us heat, smoke in the building where we can do high-rise training," said Meridian fire chief, Tim Miller. "We can do search and rescue training. We can do high-angle rescue training. Our imagination will probably limit us to what we can do, because we don't know what all we can do yet."

THE NEW BUILDING WILL ALSO BE USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, DRUG TASK FORCE, THE NATIONAL GUARD, AND OTHERS, FOR TRAINING PURPOSES.
