Indictments Handed Down in Rush Shooting

Two men have been indicted by a Lauderdale County grand jury on murder charges in a shooting at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian on Jan. 9, 2005. The indictments were made public Monday.

Indictments were issued against Antron Lashun Hearn, 21, and Alex Sims, 20, both of Meridian, in the shooting death of 20-year-old Timothy LaSalle Jenkins of Meridian. Jenkins died after he was shot outside the hospital's intensive care waiting room.

Meridian police have said the shooting followed a domestic dispute earlier in the day that sent two people to Rush with gunshot wounds.

The sequence of events began when a man allegedly shot his wife outside her home, then went to his home and shot himself. Both were transported to Rush Foundation Hospital.

Jenkins was shot later that day, apparently during an altercation between three men near the hospital's intensive care unit. One of those men, police say, was Antron Hearn, the woman's son; the other, Alex Sims, was Hearn's friend. Both Hearn and Sims are free on bond.
