Turner Funeral Set for Saturday

The funeral for prominent Waynesboro businessman, Leo Turner, Sr., has been set for Saturday at 1 p.m. It will be at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 405 Spring Street, Waynesboro.

The 81-year-old Turner died Monday. He was the first black alderman to serve in Waynesboro and the first black candidate to run for mayor.

Turner operated Turner Funeral Home for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Turner spearheaded the establishment of Friends of Children Head Start 38 years ago. He received a resolution from the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2004, commending him for his dedication to children and education.
