Pickens County, Ala., authorities arrested the girlfriend of a Mississippi man who was seriously injured in what was originally being investigated as a group attack and possible hate crime.

Twenty-five-year-old Robert Outlaw of Macon is being treated at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa with severe wounds to his buttocks, rectum and arms.

Investigators had speculated that the victim being dragged behind a vehicle was one possible explanation for the injuries sustained.

Pickens County District Attorney Chris McCool said a hate crime against the black man was still being considered a possibility before Outlaw changed his story June 12.

Twenty-six-year-old Kimberly King was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

McCool said King attacked Outlaw with a knife and stabbed him repeatedly in the arms, buttocks and rectum.
