The Hartley D. Peavey Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence was presented posthumously for the first time ever.

Richard Wilbourn, II, was the nineteenth recipient of the Hartley D. Peavey Award. He passed away in 2004.

Wilbourn was a businessman, banker, lawyer and farmer. His businesses employ well over 300 people in Lauderdale County.

"He worked hard. He believed it. He has taught our children that. And we are truly honored that now all of his hard work and efforts have been recognized in this way," said Deanna Wilbourn of her husband.

Crowds of people filed up and down the aisles to see what local businesses and organizations had to display at the 17th Annual Main Event Business and Industry Expo.

"We came to see everything out here," said Kourtney Griffith. "And see what they had and look at the business opportunities and that."

"It's just an interesting thing to come and see really new things that have been developed in the community," said Sadie Hodge.

The Main Event is an opportunity for businesses and organizations to interact with the public and generate awareness of the products and services they have to offer.

More than 135 vendors participated.
