The city of Meridian is sponsoring its annual household hazardous waste day on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.
Residents may bring items like old tires, paint, aerosol cans, and used motor oil to the public works complex at Third Street and 27th Avenue South. Then, the city will dispose of them in environmentally-friendly ways.
"It's an avenue to keep it from going into ditches and into abandoned lots and things like that," said Odell Hopkins. "We're just trying to help the citizens keep the city clean. And also give them an opportunity to get rid of some things that they need to get rid of."
There will three boxes set up at Velma Young Park, Carver Middle School and Wechsler Community Arts Center for disposal of old tires that will be recycled.
