Voters in municipalities across the state go to the polls on Tuesday. Mayoral, City Council and Board of Aldermen seats are on the ballots.

Meridian residents have a mayoral contest in the Republican primary.

Incumbent John Robert Smith and retired businessman Wally Hudnall are on the ballot. Bother were WTOK-TV's guests for "On the Record" on Sunday.

Both candidates were asked why the public should vote for them.

"If you look at the cities that surround us, they are not in the same shape as we are and they are not as safe as we are. You are not going to see that in Meridian," said Smith.

"Before businesses will relocate, we have to pave our streets and give them a reason to move to Meridian," said Hudnall.

Both Democrat and Republican candidates will be on Mississippi ballots Tuesday. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
