A missing person’s investigation ended Sunday in Pickens County, Ala.
Pickens County Sheriff David Abston said a canine search team from Columbus, Miss., found the body of 56-year-old Leon Jones in a hay barn Sunday.
Jones, who lived in the Ethelsville community near the Mississippi line, was reported missing last Tuesday after he failed to return from a trip to the store, located about three miles away.
Abston said it appeared Jones, who was mentally impaired, had been dead for several days. He believes the victim fell from a stack of hay and into a tight hole and was unable to free himself.
The sheriff said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
