Congressman Chip Pickering was the guest speaker for Meridian's Rotary Club meeting on Monday.
Pickering talked about highway legislation he says is in the works that could help east Mississippi become a more attractive location site for automotive manufacturers.
"Ten million dollars to accelerate the four-laning of Highway 19 between Meridian and Philadelphia and money for the interchange at the industrial park here in Lauderdale County, as we try to create an automotive manufacturing site and center," said Pickering.
Regarding the upcoming Base Closure and Realignment commission process, Pickering said he is "cautiously optimistic" that NAS Meridian is in good position to maintain or possibly expand missions.
