Temple Theater officials, located across the street from the new parking garage in downtown Meridian, say they are pleased with it but disappointed that one of two planned elevators has been left out for monetary reasons.
The elevator that has been installed faces the opera house rather than the theater. That's not good news for the theater or many of the elderly people who visit it.
"I think that with the elevator not being there, it's going to create some concern on the security level," said Eggler. "But also our senior citizens who will have to walk all the way to the other side to be able to come down on the elevator. On this side, all they would have to do is walk across the street."
However, city officials say the 2006 city budget will include about $250,000 for the second elevator, as well as a surveillance system.
