Helping Hands Sought

The group that is helping to restore the home of the McGlothin family in Meridian is now looking for more participants.

Officials with the "Americorps Rebuilds" program are now accepting applications for new students. The program is designed to help low-income individuals learn valuable skills in construction.

Organizers say for many, the program is a second chance.

"When you came out of school, if you didn't have an opportunity to go to school, to go to college, get a post-secondary education or learn a trade, something like that, this gives you the opportunity to do so with a year of service," said Louis Sutton of the Meridian Housing Authority.

As part of the program, participants receive a monthly stipend of $800.

For more information on how you may get involved, call the Meridian Housing Authority at (601) 693-4285.
